Nordea Bank warns on frequent fraudulent SMS messages

Nordea Bank informs that the cases of SMS messages sent to mobile phones of clients of credit institutions in various areas of the Russia have been revealed where the name of Central Bank of the Russian Federation is used.

Messages contain the text that a client’s bank card has been blocked because of the attempt to compromise the PIN code, as well as a mobile phone number to be used for additional information. Besides, SMS messages can be read as follows: “Received from the Central Bank. Your bank card has been blocked. Attempt to crack the PIN code. You can get additional information having reached the following phone number (+7 ххх ххх хх хх)».

Fraudsters are aiming to get information on the details of bank card (its number, validity term and security code) for unauthorized writing-off a bank account through Internet.

Please note that the Central Bank of the Russian Federation and/or its structural units do not distribute such information messages using communication tools (SMS messages, post messages, e-mail etc.) to clients of credit institutions, including clients of Nordea Bank.

Upon receipt of suspicious messages, Nordea Bank strongly recommends the following:

  • NOT TO CALL BACK the phone numbers given in SMS messages;
  • NOT TO DISCLOSE the bank card details (its number, validity term, security code) and the PIN code, including using SMS messages, to third parties.

Besides, Nordea Bank reminds that:

  • While sending SMS messages, a Nordea Bank employee always gives the official phone number for contacts with the bank cardholders and never requests the information on bank cards. There are only last digits of the client’s bank card in SMS messages sent by the Bank;
  • During conversation with the client a Nordea Bank employee never demands to give the details of the bank card (excluding last four digits of the bank card, client’s name and the code word). To prevent fraudulent operations with the use of bank cards Nordea Bank recommends to read Instructions «On security measures during the use of bank cards» (the reference to the section Security measures during the use of bank cards).

Should you receive suspicious messages, please call Nordea Bank:

  • (495) 921-21-01 – for calls in Moscow;
  • 8 (800) 200-34-77 – Unified help desk for calls outside Moscow (toll-free).
